A child with talent in dance or musical theatre may want to consider applying to one of the UK’s many performing arts colleges. Choosing the right school can be tricky, however, as there are so many options.

RADA is renowned for producing aggressive triple threats who can act, dance and sing. Its acting classes are focused on speech and drama, with an emphasis on Shakespeare.

Rose Bruford

Rose Bruford is a world renowned drama college located in south east London in the beautiful surroundings of Lamorbey Park. The campus clusters around the Grade II listed Lamorbey House with modern facilities including two theatres, recording studios, workshop, classrooms and a library. Students are able to enjoy a wide variety of activities that include visits to London’s historic sites and West End theatre.

The college offers a range of undergraduate and postgraduate courses in performance, acting, design and management. It has an international reputation and welcomes applicants from all over the world. Students collaborate to produce more than 75 productions each year. Notable alumni include Mathew Baynton, Rosalie Craig and Gary Oldman.

The college has a student union that hosts events throughout the year. It also runs social clubs and societies and is active in the community through outreach projects. Its students have an interest in addressing issues that affect society, such as mental health and gender equality.

Bristol Old Vic

Bristol Old Vic is a theatre company and associated theatre school that was established in 1946. It is an offshoot of London’s Old Vic and was one of the first to experiment with the idea of regional subsidy. It has been running ever since.

RWCMD

Hundreds of concerts are held every year, featuring music, opera, dance and theatre performances by students and international guest artists. In addition to the main Richard Burton Theatre and Dora Stoutzker Concert Hall, the RWCMD also has a flexible black box theatre and public gallery spaces.

Oxford University

Oxford University is a world-renowned centre of academic excellence, with its prestigious library and museum collections, stunning architecture, and spectacular gardens. Its ground-breaking research has contributed to its top ranking in the Times Higher Education world university rankings.

The famous ‘ivory towers’ of Oxford are home to many different colleges, each with their own distinctive character and history. Many of the older buildings are built around a central quadrangle (known as a ‘division’) and most have their own chapel.

Students here are involved in a wide variety of activities, from the famous debating society that was once known as the last bastion of free speech to one of Europe’s most famous orchestras, the Oxford University Orchestra. Cowley Road is the heart of student life, with a huge array of restaurants, shops and bars to explore. The University’s extensive library system contains over a million books and the Pitt Rivers Museum displays a fascinating collection of antiquities including an impressive Egyptian mummy.

Performing Arts Center in Englewood, NJ

The Performing Arts Center in Englewood is a non-profit theater that offers dance, theater, and music classes year round. The venue has a beautiful interior and exterior, and is a great place to see a performance.

Tom Keifer reclaimed his golden raspy voice at the Bergen PAC. He played a mix of new songs and classics from his back catalog.

Bergen County Players

Bergen County Players is a performance group based out of Bergen, New Jersey. The company has a long history of producing audience-pleasing musicals and plays. BCP has earned a reputation for outstanding quality productions, including several starring Broadway stars.

The venue also offers dance, theater and music classes year-round. Its education facility is located in the former recording studio of Tony Bennett and features a dance studio, four private music studios and an early childhood studio for the bergenPAC Performing Arts School. Outside food and beverages, large bags or backpacks, cameras and video recording devices are not allowed in the venue. The staff at the box office is friendly and helpful.

The Radburn Players

Located in Radburn, New Jersey, The Radburn Players is an all volunteer nonprofit theater group. They offer dance, theater and music classes year round for children and adults. They also host a series of performances at BergenPAC. In addition, they have a community center which offers adult aerobics, men’s basketball and a swimming pool. The association is governed by nine elected trustees and a full-time manager. Residents pay both Fair Lawn taxes and a Radburn charge, which goes toward property maintenance and programs.

Steve has played smaller and larger roles in many of the theater groups in the area, including a Justice Wargrave in Main Street Theatre’s production of And Then There Were None, and a Jewish factory worker named Isaac Cohen in Westfield Community Players’ production of Abie’s Irish Rose. He has also served as a sound technician for WCP and the Troupe of Friends free Shakespeare in the Park series. He is a member of NJACT and AACT.

West Side Presbyterian Church

Ridgewood, New Jersey is a quaint urban suburb that offers the best of both worlds. Its proximity to Manhattan provides an electrifying cosmopolitan atmosphere and its rich history gives it a sense of community that is unmatched. The city’s population consists of many different ethnic groups, giving it a vibrant culture that is unique to Bergen County.

The church is currently in the midst of a controversy over its future. Its members are seeking to sell the building for $33 million, but they face a number of hurdles. One of them is the fact that the church is a landmark. However, a law allows for owners to apply for de-landmarking, which they plan to do.

The West Side Presbyterian Church is also a performance venue. Its three-manual Nichols and Simpson sanctuary pipe organ has been featured in concerts for over a decade. The church’s acoustic environment is ideal for solo and ensemble performances in the classical, jazz, and African-American traditions.

Black Box Performing Arts Center

The Black Box Theatre is a performance space designed to give actors, directors and designers total artistic freedom. These theaters are also known as flexible theatres because they can be adapted to the needs of different productions. They are very popular at fringe theater festivals because they can be easily re-purposed as needed.

This small theatre is ideal for experimental theatre, one-act plays, and dramatic pieces that require a minimal set. It can also accommodate small musical presentations and improv and comedy shows. It is a very intimate space that allows the performers to establish a connection with the audience.

BBPAC offers collaborative and innovative workshops in theater (drama and musicals), acting, music, and writing for adults, teens and children from all backgrounds. Performing Arts Volunteer Opportunities

Volunteering in the arts can open your mind to new experiences. These organizations are always looking for determined individuals who want to make a difference in the community.

Performing arts volunteers are trained in various operating aspects of the theater, including front-of-house operations, marketing/PR, fundraising, video production and facility maintenance. Hours accumulated by volunteers are redeemable for complimentary tickets to SOPAC-presented events.

Rubin Museum of Art

Through changing exhibitions and an array of engaging public programs, the Rubin Museum helps visitors explore the artistic heritage of the Himalayan region and understand it within the context of world cultures. Its volunteer opportunities offer a variety of ways to get involved with the organization on a flexible schedule.

Education Center Coordinator

Reporting to the Manager of Educational Programs, this position manages all aspects of the Education Center, collaborating closely with multiple departments. This includes scheduling and implementing on-site school programs, coordinating the museums touch collection and study collection and stocking interpretive materials for the Explore areas, and working on content for the Museum’s educational web pages.

Interns also participate in group activities including trips to NYC cultural institutions and brown-bag discussions with staff. In addition, volunteers receive a 10% discount on food and drink at Cafe Serai.

SculptureCenter

SculptureCenter is one of the most interesting museums in New York City, and it offers a number of volunteer opportunities for those who are interested in working with sculpture. Founded by artists in 1928, SculptureCenter leads the conversation on contemporary art through commissioning new work and presenting exhibitions. Art21

Art21, founded in 2007 to educate and expand access to contemporary art, presents today’s most groundbreaking visual artists through documentary films and resources. Educators are invited to join the community through its Art21 Educators programs.

A key component of the program is its Summer Institute that brings educators together with Art21 Educators alumni to share knowledge about teaching and learning with colleagues, while engaging with a range of art practices. This year, sessions ranged from working with text to improvisation and a TASK Party.

The organization’s website features the Art21 Blog, one of the first guest blogging programs online, and its digital short film series, Extended Play and New York Close Up, receive acclaim. The organization names its executive director position after Susan Sollins, a pioneering leader in arts education and museum education.

Art Start

Art Start offers educational arts and mentoring programs for teenagers, benefitting their family, community and world. The organization’s visual arts and business classes equip students with the skills to become self-sufficient adults.

Volunteers for the memorial art gallery in Queens, New York, are needed to act as guides, program assistants and community liasons. They may also provide administrative support and work behind the scenes. Benefits include discounts at the museum store and free admission to events.

Culture Push encourages artists and other creative people to approach common problems through hands-on civic participation and imaginative problem-solving. Free Arts Mentors support youth ages 12-23 as they develop visual arts portfolios, visit cultural institutions and artists studios, participate in professional development workshops and explore internship opportunities at local companies through three interdependent tracks.
